Azzurri defender Leonardo Bonucci says this could be his last season as a professional footballer and revealed he could have joined Lazio this summer. The 35-year-old veteran left Juventus after spending 12 years with the club and has since begun legal proceedings against the Bianconeri.
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, the Italy centre-back explained why he chose to make the move to the Bundesliga to join Union Berlin:
“I had two options, one was Lazio and the other was Union Berlin. At the end of August I chose Germany, I saw the first two Bundesliga matches and I was very happy to come here because of the atmosphere, the fans, the team.
“Then I talked to the coach and decided to move here for what will perhaps be my last as a player. I think this decision is very important, I played 20 years in Italy and I think this decision is very important because at the end of my career I want to be a coach.”
