Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis says the league are wrong for wanting to ‘speak and distract’ his team, following reports into alleged false accounting. The Partenopei president was the subject of an investigation linked with Napoli’s transfer of Victor Osimhen, with reports in Italy suggesting that he could be under closer scrutiny for the deal.
Osimhen moved to Naples for a €71m transfer fee, with €21m of it being made up of unknown players, namely Ciro Palmieri, Luigi Liguori, Claudio Manzi and Orestis Karnezis. All of the players went on to leave the Lille first team within a season of having transferred.
Speaking to SportMediaset, De Laurentiis briefly addressed the stories while also touching on Napoli’s Supercoppa Italiana win against Fiorentina:
“I’ve always been convinced that Napoli were good. Then you have to give Mazzarri time. Every coach has his own way, which he must be able to transmit to the team as well, and then you cannot expect to always do things with carbon paper, because they don’t come.”
“Osimhen deal? The Lega di Serie A is wrong to want to speak loudly and distract…. Everyone, including Uefa and Fifa, try to belittle and minimise the true value for the fans, which is the national championship. This applies to every state. Football has to be revised. For the rest I don’t feel like talking.”
