Napoli had initially been eager to secure the services of the 23-year-old Argentine defender, with an agreement in place to pay Udinese a fee of approximately €16 million, along with an additional €2 million in add-ons. The deal seemed imminent, but the situation took a sudden turn.
According to reports, Napoli’s hesitation stemmed from their growing admiration for Leo Ostigard’s recent performances. The Norwegian defender, who had garnered interest from Torino and Udinese, became a focal point for Napoli. Impressed by Ostigard’s abilities, the club made a strategic decision to withdraw from the pursuit of Perez.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Napoli, swayed by Ostigard’s potential, has definitively decided not to sign Perez during this transfer window. This decision has effectively halted any progress in the negotiations with Udinese, leaving Perez in Udine for the foreseeable future.
Walter Mazzarri, Napoli’s head coach, has chosen to rely on the defensive options currently at his disposal. The squad will consist of Ostigard, Juan Jesus, Natan, and Amir Rrahmani as the primary center-back options.
