Felipe Anderson has taken to social media to confirm his departure from Lazio, signalling a new chapter in his career with Palmeiras, despite earlier speculation linking him with a move to Juventus.
The Brazilian winger’s contract with Lazio is set to expire on June 30, and negotiations for a renewal have been ongoing for months with no resolution in sight.
While reports suggested that Lazio’s new coach, Igor Tudor, was keen on securing Anderson’s stay, the player himself took to Instagram Stories to announce his decision to move on.
“In respect to Lazio and its supporters, who have always backed me, I confirm that I have not reached an agreement to extend my contract with the club,” Anderson wrote. “I will, therefore, embark on a new journey next season.”
Anderson expressed gratitude for the support he received from Lazio fans and vowed to continue giving his best until the end of his contract.
The 31-year-old winger, currently celebrating his birthday, is in his second stint at Lazio, having returned to the club from West Ham United in 2021. With 319 appearances for Lazio, he has scored 58 goals and provided 63 assists over the years.
Although there were reports linking Anderson with a move to Juventus on a free transfer, Palmeiras swooped in to secure his services until December 31, 2027.
It is understood that Anderson’s decision to return to Brazil was influenced by family reasons, putting an end to speculations about his next destination in European football.
