Calciomercato report on the news, sharing Beck’s statement to Bold.dk shed light on Kjaer’s departure: “Simon will leave Milan at the end of the season. There’s no drama in this; it’s a natural farewell. He loves Milan; he’s been playing here for four years, and it’s the right time to leave.” Kjaer had long harbored a dream of playing for Milan, and seeing it fulfilled was a highlight of his career. Milan became the club where he played the most games, aiming to elevate it back to the pinnacle of Italian football. He achieved a league title, maintained a consistent presence at the top of the table each year, and reached the Champions League semifinals last season.
At 35, Kjaer doesn’t plan to retire just yet. Following the European Championship with Denmark, he seeks to continue playing a leading role elsewhere. Beck revealed, “I can confirm that this winter there was significant interest from top clubs, as always happens for a player with Simon’s qualities and international reputation, but he was only interested in finishing the season with Milan.”
Reflecting on his time in red and black, Kjaer arrived from Sevilla in January 2020 on loan, with Milan later exercising their option to buy for €3.5 million. During his tenure, he clinched a Serie A title and amassed 120 appearances with one goal to his name, scored against Manchester United in the 2020-21 Europa League.
