According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bologna had hoped to secure €60 million from Zirkzee’s potential sale. Yet, the reality for the Rossoblu might be different. The €40 million release clause, previously believed to be exclusive to Bayern Munich, is reportedly applicable to all clubs, with Bayern merely holding the first option to decide on a move.
With Bayern Munich currently not interested in exercising this option, other clubs are now in a position to trigger the €40 million release clause. The financial framework for this clause was established two years ago, anticipating that Zirkzee would command an annual salary of €4 million to €5 million from prospective buyers. English clubs are among those linked with a possible transfer.
The Dutch talent has been one of the players of the season in Serie A, scoring 12 goals in 37 appearances, helping Bologna secure qualification to next seasons Champions League.
