Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that Roma striker Tammy Abraham may be on his way back to the Premier League, with West Ham United showing interest in securing his signature this summer. Abraham, 26, had a remarkable season for the Giallorossi in 2021-22, netting 27 goals. However, his progress was hampered as he missed the majority of the last campaign due to an ACL injury sustained last summer.
La Gazzetta report that despite missing out on selection for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, Abraham is eager to revitalize his career, although he recently expressed contentment with remaining in Rome.
However, Roma’s coach Daniele De Rossi and the new Sporting Director Florent Ghisolfi are seeking a fresh direction for the team, leaving Abraham surplus to requirements, despite his existing contract running until 2026.
West Ham are in search of a replacement for 34-year-old Michail Antonio, who has spent a decade at the club but is now nearing the end of his contract. Abraham is reportedly the top choice for new coach Julen Lopetegui to lead the line in the upcoming season.
Roma acknowledge that they are likely to incur a loss on the €42.5M they paid Chelsea for Abraham’s services three years ago. It is expected that West Ham will offer around €22-25M to secure his services.
