Fiorentina and Albert Gudmundsson have finally reached an agreement after months of courtship. The Icelandic striker’s move from Genoa to Florence has been confirmed, marking a significant transfer for both clubs.
The financial details of the deal are substantial, as reported by Calciomercato. Gudmundsson will initially join Fiorentina on a highly expensive loan worth €8 million. The agreement includes a conditional obligation to buy set at €17 million, with potential bonuses of up to €3 million. In total, the transfer could see Fiorentina paying around €28 million to Genoa.
Gudmundsson’s personal terms have also been settled. He is set to earn €2.2 million per year at Fiorentina. The contract structure is unique, with the player signing a one-year deal with Genoa, which will be followed by a four-year contract with Fiorentina if the purchase obligation is triggered.
The key factor in unblocking this long-standing negotiation was the movement of another striker, Andrea Pinamonti. The former Sassuolo forward’s agreement to join Genoa has allowed the Ligurian club to part ways with Gudmundsson. With Pinamonti replacing the departed Retegui and Vitinha already in the squad, Genoa felt comfortable letting Gudmundsson go.
While Genoa’s dream attacking partnership may not materialize, coach Gilardino had anticipated this possibility.
