Roma have transitioned to a three-man defensive formation under new head coach Ivan Juric, and to bolster their backline options, the club are now eyeing experienced defender Koffi Djidji. This potential move comes after Roma’s recent acquisitions of free agents Mats Hummels and Mario Hermoso following the transfer deadline.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Djidji is currently weighing his options, with interest from smaller clubs as well. Empoli are considering him as a replacement for the injured Saba Sazonov, while Serie B side Sampdoria has also shown interest. The Blucerchiati were close to securing Djidji before more attractive opportunities emerged.
The 31-year-old Ivorian defender has a history with Juric, having played consistently under him at Torino. Despite being limited to 13 appearances last season due to injury, Djidji has amassed 112 appearances for the Granata. Juric played a crucial role in revitalizing Djidji’s career, making him a regular starter after a loan spell at Crotone.
Djidji joined Serie A in 2018 after several seasons with Nice in Ligue 1, where he made 112 appearances. Despite his professional success, he has yet to receive a call-up to the Ivory Coast national team.
