Juventus’ unbeaten run in Serie A came to an end as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cagliari in a match marked by two penalties and a late red card. The result leaves the Bianconeri still searching for consistency in their league campaign.
Despite missing key players due to injuries, including Gleison Bremer and Nico Gonzalez, Juventus took an early lead through Dusan Vlahovic’s penalty. The Serbian striker converted from the spot after Federico Gatti’s header was deflected off Sebastiano Luperto’s hand.
Juventus had chances to extend their lead, with Teun Koopmeiners and Vlahovic both coming close. However, their inability to capitalize on these opportunities would prove costly.
Cagliari, who secured their first win of the season last week, grew into the game as it progressed. Their persistence paid off when they were awarded a penalty late in the second half. Roberto Piccoli was fouled by Douglas Luiz, and Razvan Marin stepped up to convert, scoring Cagliari’s first goal against Juventus in Serie A this season.
The drama wasn’t over, as Francisco Conceicao, making his first start for Juventus, was sent off in the closing stages for simulation. The referee showed no hesitation in brandishing a second yellow card, reducing Juventus to ten men.
Both teams had chances to snatch a winner in the dying moments. Marin came close for Cagliari with a long-range effort, while Juventus nearly capitalized on a corner that struck the woodwork.
This result leaves Juventus frustrated, having dropped points at home and conceding their first league goal of the season. For Cagliari, the draw represents a valuable point away from home as they continue their fight for Serie A survival.
