Inter Milan set to extend Yann Sommer’s contract by one year

Inter Milan are reportedly planning to extend goalkeeper Yann Sommer’s contract by an additional year, according to sources close to the club. The Swiss international, who joined Inter in the summer of 2023 from Bayern Munich, currently has a contract that runs until June 2025.

TMW report that the club are keen on activating a clause in Sommer’s existing contract that allows for a one-year extension, which would see him remain at the San Siro until June 2026. While the agreement is currently verbal, it is expected that the official signing will take place soon.

Sommer has quickly established himself as a key player for Inter since his arrival, becoming the first-choice goalkeeper under manager Simone Inzaghi. His performances have been crucial in Inter’s defensive solidity, although the team has recently faced some challenges in maintaining their usual high standards at the back.

Following a hard-fought victory against Torino, Sommer addressed the team’s recent defensive issues, stating, “It’s a period where we’re conceding too many goals. We need to return to last year’s standards, that’s the most important thing. Losing the derby was tough, but we’re on the right track with these three wins. We can’t afford to concede as we have been doing recently.”

The goalkeeper also praised his teammate Marcus Thuram for his recent hat-trick and overall contribution to the team, highlighting the French forward’s importance in creating space for Lautaro Martinez and other players.
