Rafael Leão addresses Paulo Fonseca situation and responds to criticism

In a recent press conference ahead of Portugal’s Nations League matches against Poland and Croatia, AC Milan star Rafael Leão addressed several topics, including his relationship with coach Paulo Fonseca and recent criticism of his performances.

Regarding his situation with Fonseca, Leão stated, “It’s a resolved matter. I have nothing against him, and the manager has nothing against me. I don’t like being on the bench, but he has to make decisions, and I have to respect them as a player. When I enter the field, I give my all to help the team.”

Leão also responded to comments made by Milan legend Costacurta about his lack of intensity. “I clearly disagree with what Costacurta said. I’ve been having great seasons at Milan, but like everyone, there are ups and downs. The recent games prove that. The season has just begun, and I’m not the perfect player. Sometimes I can do much better. These criticisms don’t shake me; I have people who help me grow, and those are the ones I need to listen to. But these criticisms help me respond on the field.”

The Portuguese forward expressed satisfaction with his recent performances but emphasized his focus on continuous improvement. “I’m always thinking ahead. Of course, I’m happy with the games I’ve played, especially the last two. But I’m already thinking about the next ones, about what I can improve. Here with the national team and at Milan, I want to achieve great things. The season is going well.”
