A new chapter in the ongoing protest against Torino Football Club’s president Urbano Cairo unfolded in the heart of Turin. A banner reading “Cairo basta!!!” (Cairo enough!!!) was displayed on a balcony overlooking Piazza San Carlo, one of the city’s main squares and a popular tourist destination, especially during the ongoing ATP Finals tennis tournament.
The banner was hung by an ordinary fan, not an ultra, showcasing the widespread discontent with the club’s management that extends beyond hardcore supporter groups. This act of protest in such a prominent location highlights the growing frustration among Torino supporters towards Cairo’s leadership.
This incident is part of a larger, ongoing campaign of dissent against Cairo. In August, tens of thousands of fans marched from the Filadelfia training ground to the Olimpico Grande Torino stadium before a match against Atalanta to voice their disapproval. The Maratona, Torino’s most vocal fan section, has consistently expressed their dissatisfaction during both home and away matches.
Furthermore, in recent weeks, various banners calling for Cairo to sell the club have appeared at the Filadelfia training ground. The appearance of this latest banner in the city center, amidst the international attention brought by the ATP Finals, marks an escalation in the visibility of the fans’ discontent.
