AC Milan’s 125th anniversary celebrations were marred by ongoing protests from fans, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the club’s management and players during a private event in the Tortona area of Milan. Following a disappointing 0-0 draw against Genoa, approximately 150 organized supporters gathered to voice their frustrations, echoing sentiments that had already been made clear during the match.

The Curva Sud, Milan’s passionate fan group, displayed banners and chanted slogans directed at club ownership. One banner read, “Incompetent directors, a club without ambition. You are unworthy of our history,” while another stated, “Players without desire and dignity, you are a reflection of this ownership.” This protest was peaceful but highlighted the growing discontent over a season that has fallen short of expectations.

As fans awaited the arrival of players, coach Paulo Fonseca, and club executives, they made their feelings known with chants against the management. The atmosphere was marked by indifference towards Fonseca, while some players received mixed reactions. Applause greeted newcomers such as Francesco Camarda and established players like Christian Pulisic and Mike Maignan. However, others, including Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez, faced criticism from the crowd.

The protests underscored a significant divide between the supporters and the current leadership of the club. The fans’ chants included demands for owner Gerry Cardinale to sell the club, with one chant stating, “Cardinale, you must sell!” This reflects a broader sentiment among the fanbase that they feel disconnected from the current management approach.

Despite the celebratory occasion meant to honour Milan’s storied history, it became evident that many fans believe the club is not living up to its legacy. The Curva Sud’s Instagram account succinctly captured their feelings: “There’s nothing to celebrate.”
