As the Serie A season progresses, Roma’s coach Claudio Ranieri has made headlines with his recent statements regarding his future and the club’s search for a new manager. Ranieri, who has been brought back to stabilize the team after a disappointing start under previous management, will be a guest on the Rai Due show “Dribbling” on January 18.

In his remarks, Ranieri stated, “The club will look for a new coach capable of bringing the team into the elite of Italian and European football. At the end of the season, I will stop coaching; it is time to say enough.” These comments put an end to speculation about his potential continuation with the team beyond this season. As outlined in the club’s official announcement regarding his appointment last November, Ranieri will transition to a role as a consultant for all sporting matters starting July 1.

With Ranieri’s departure on the horizon, attention turns to potential candidates for the managerial position. The imminent agreement between Massimiliano Allegri and Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia has ruled him out as a candidate. Allegri was previously considered before the club opted for Ivan Juric and then Ranieri.

Currently, Vincenzo Montella appears to be a frontrunner for the role. Montella, who has a history with Roma both as a player and as a former manager, is currently coaching the Turkish national team until June 2026. Initial discussions had taken place after De Rossi’s departure, but the Friedkin family chose not to pursue Montella at that time.

Other names in consideration include Roberto Mancini, who remains available after his dismissal from the Saudi Arabian national team. Mancini had been linked with a return to Turkey but was ultimately not hired by Besiktas.
