Ahead of Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final, the latest AC Milan team news bodes well for the Rossoneri as they welcome back three starters.
AC Milan Team News vs Bologna
AC Milan’s preparation for the Coppa Italia climax could scarcely have gone better over the weekend, as their late second-half flurry buried Bologna, who they will face in Wednesday’s final.
Three goals within the final 17 minutes — including a brace from Santiago Gimenez — moves Milan within three points of European football, although they will hope for an easier route to Europa League football by lifting silverware.
The first in a double-header against Bologna revealed the closeness in quality between the two sides, and although Milan ran out comfortable 3-1 victors at the final whistle, the result was somewhat flattering given they trailed for the majority.
Nevertheless, momentum is a powerful thing in football, and Milan’s pre-match preparation has been boosted even further by a triple team news boost.
Fikayo Tomori, who was forced off just 14 minutes into Friday’s victory after appearing to injure his neck in a collision with Benjamin Dominguez, is excepted to return after an update on Sunday revealed he will travel with the team to Rome.
Elsewhere, Rafael Leao was absent on Friday after an accumulation of yellow cards saw him suspended. After picking up his fifth booking of the season, his one-game ban was served against Bologna, and he will be eligible to return for the Coppa Italia decider.
Lastly, but by no means least, manager Sergio Conceicao has been sweating over the fitness of Youssouf Fofana, who has been crucial to providing balance in midfield for Milan this season.
The France international has been training individually since being forced off in last weekend’s 2-1 win against Genoa, but reports suggest he returned to full first-team training on Sunday.
All three of the aforementioned players are expected to slot back into the starting line-up on Wednesday, as Conceicao attempts to salvage Milan’s otherwise dismal season.
The former Porto manager is expected to depart at the end of the season — even if he lifts the Coppa Italia this week — with the club hierarchy lining up an impressive shortlist of next AC Milan manager candidates.
