Lorenzo Lucca Says He Is ‘Sure’ That Azzurri Defenders Can Stop Erling Haaland

Start

Lorenzo Lucca has claimed that his Italy team-mates will be able to thwart Erling Haaland when the Azzurri face Norway in June.

The two nations meet in a FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier at the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo. It will be the Italians first game in Group I.

That is owing to Luciano Spalletti’s side playing in the UEFA Nations League during March’s international break. Norway are already top of the pile after winning their opening two fixtures.

Lorenzo Lucca On Erling Haaland

I study Haaland a lot. For me he is maybe the best striker in Europe, best in the world inside the penalty area,” he said on the Italian Football Podcast.

His movement, how he loses his man, the spaces that he sees, these are things that I work a lot with, together with my personal coach, who is someone who helps me improve on all things by watching videos.

He is a player who when he has his day and if his team-mates are able to get the ball to him, he is a very very strong striker.

I think that Italy have very strong defenders: Bastoni, Calafiori, Buongiorno – I’m surely forgetting someone – are all players who have experience having played many matches in the European cups, with the national team. I am sure that they will be able to stop him.”

Lorenzo Lucca Transfer Value

According to Transfermarkt, Lorenzo Lucca has a transfer value of €22million. That equates to approximately $25million.

That figure may appear surprisingly low considering his age (24) and the fruitful season he has had in front of goal for club side Udinese.

However, Lucca did struggle to find the back of the net in the early stages of his professional soccer career. He even spent time on loan at Dutch giants Ajax where he scored just twice in 14 league appearances.

Lorenzo Lucca Stats

Lorenzo Lucca has enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career so far in 2024-25. Across all competitions, the 6ft 7in forward has netted 13 times and provided two assists for Udinese.

Still only 24, Lucca has his best years ahead of him and he is becoming a mainstay in the national side. He made two late substitute appearances against Germany in the Nations League quarter-final in March.

Lucca won his first Azzurri cap during the 4-1 Nations League victory over Israel in October. He is yet to register his first goal.

This weekend, Lucca is expected back in domestic action as the Bianconeri take on Fiorentina. The best Serie A betting sites have all the latest odds and markets.

Who Could Sign Lorenzo Lucca?

Udinese forward Lorenzo Lucca is being tracked by Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Milan ahead of a potential summer switch. Napoli and Juventus are also monitoring Lucca.

The 24-year-old is certainly not short of suitors. The Bianconeri star is also likened by English Premier League side Manchester United.

However, the Red Devils failure to secure European soccer next season – alongside the Rossoneri – would make it harder for either club to secure Lucca’s signature.
