Is Simone Inzaghi leaving Inter Milan? That is the question on everyone’s lips after a crippling climax to what could have been a historic season.
Inter Milan Keen to Keep Simone Inzaghi
As good as Paris Saint-Germain were throughout their five-goal Champions League final rout, Inter Milan’s performance was also an aberration by their usual standards.
A team that has built a steely reputation for being impossibly hard to beat, were repeatedly bulldozed with relative ease in Munich.
From the stands to the dugout, the crestfallen Inter faithful painted a picture of despair, as their season reached a spectacular crescendo.
For a side who, until the final month of the campaign, were on course for a treble, a trophy-less end has piled the pressure on manager Simone Inzaghi.
Amongst the Italian press labelling the result a “nightmare” and “humiliation”, Tuttosport’s headline read “DisIntergrated.” La Stampa went for an even more comical angle, with a French title reading “La débâcle.”
The nation’s major newspapers have scarcely let up in the days following the final, speculating on the future of some of Inter’s key players — including Davide Frattesi who may leave the club if Inzaghi stays — as well as the manager himself.
The media have suggested that the club are discussing internally whether to cut ties with Inzaghi, ahead of the Club World Cup in the USA this month.
However, CEO Giuseppe Marotta echoed the club’s intentions to keep Inzaghi in the dugout, as long as the feeling is reciprocated.
“This defeat will not have an impact. Inzaghi has a contract for another year and we had already decided to meet with him this week,” said.
“Almost all the credit for this positive cycle is due to his professionalism and abilities. If he wants to continue, we are happy.
Despite the manner in which Inter fell to defeat, Inzaghi has guided the club through one of their most successful periods, lifting a Scudetto, two Coppa Italia titles, as well as two Champions League final appearances in three seasons.
When Does Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan Contract End?
Simone Inzaghi’s contract at Inter expires next summer, but Marotta’s comments suggest the club are ready to place their faith in him and extend his stay at the San Siro.
Marotta continued by saying: “We are meeting with the coach because this club is not used to letting a manager go into the final year of his contract. There is no revolution underway. We will meet to hear what he has to say, I repeat, on our part, we are very proud and honoured to continue with him.”
Is Simone Inzaghi Leaving Inter Milan?
Although Inter are standing with Inzaghi’s amid the cacophony of noise surrounding his future, the man himself is still someway off settling on his future.
Speaking immediately after the 5-0 defeat, he responded to a question about what lies ahead, saying: “As I was saying before to your colleague, I cannot answer this question now.
“I came here out of respect for you, for politeness, because I am hurting from a sporting point of view. It’s not the right time to talk about the future. We are extremely disappointed, and since July of last year we’ve played 58 or 59 games, we got to this final match, so it’s awkward to talk about my future now.”
According to the fastest payout betting sites, a long line of potential suitors are waiting in the wings, should Inzaghi choose not to renew his contract.
Not least Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, who are ready to offer $33 million per-year for two seasons, as they search for an elite manager after finishing runners-up in the Saudi Pro League.

Both Tottenham and Newcastle are also said to have opened initial talks with Inzaghi, but Al-Hilal are hoping that increasing his current salary by six-fold may be enough to turn his head.
Everything points towards Inzaghi staying put, although crunch talks with the sporting hierarchy on Tuesday may reveal some grating issues.
Much like Gian Piero Gasperini’s departure from Atalanta, which was fuelled by the club’s inability to hand him guarantees in the transfer window, Inzaghi may be left frustrated by Inter’s propensity for tightening the purse strings.
For nearly the entirety of Inzaghi’s tenure, he has been forced to produce results whilst the club operate on the breadline. Since 2021, they’ve only spent €285 million on transfer fees, whilst stripping the core of important players — including Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku — in order to repair the club’s worrying financial health.
It is likely Inzaghi will need guarantees in the transfer market if he is to stay, with the club’s cut-price, short-term gambles such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Francesco Acerbi now declining.
