AC Milan may have a decision to make in the coming weeks, as Manchester United are reportedly open to a swap deal involving Andre Onana and Mike Maignan.
Is Mike Maignan Leaving AC Milan?
The Italian side have been in negotiations over the departure of Mike Maignan for the majority of this summer transfer window, as the Frenchman looks to move away from Milan.
Initially, the French shot-stopper looked to be heading to the Premier League after talks with Chelsea progressed to the final stages and personal terms were agreed.
However, the Blues were unwilling to match Milan’s asking price of $25 million and were instead looking to agree a deal for around $15m – which led to the deal collapsing.
Since then, the seven-time Champions League winners have been open to offers for Maignan, despite his position as the number one goalkeeper at the club.
The 29-year-old has made 163 appearances for Milan since joining in July 2021, winning the Serie A title in his debut season and establishing himself as one of the best goalies in the world.
Maignan’s deal in Milan is set to expire in June 2026, meaning AC may be looking to cash-in this summer instead of losing the French international as a free agent next year.
Massimiliano Allegri has recently been appointed as the new manager at AC Milan, meaning a huge summer clear-out could occur with several players leaving and joining.
The Italian giants are outsiders to win the league title on the safest online betting sites and may need to implement a host of changes to compete next season.
Will Milan Swap Maignan For Andre Onana?
One possibility that has been hitting the headlines in recent days, is the possibility of a swap deal between Manchester United and AC Milan, where the two clubs would trade shot-stoppers.
Andre Onana has endured a truly horrific time in Manchester, making countless errors in between the sticks and Ruben Amorim is reportedly looking for a new number one.
Another United star could play a role in this deal, as AC Milan have shown heavy interest in Alejandro Garancho and reportedly see the Argentinian as a perfect replacement for Rafael Leao.
The Portuguese winger stunned the club after reportedly requesting a move away from Milan this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
If the speedy winger does move elsewhere this summer, then this could see Garnacho head to Milan in a deal that could involve money and Mike Maignan heading the other way.
Onana would then be a secondary inclusion, but the Cameroonian does have history in Milan after his spell with Inter and could find the form that earned his move to Manchester.
