Carlos Augusto has revealed that Inter Milan are able to fight without fear under Cristian Chivu, as the Brazilian was asked to compare the Nerazzurri boss to Simone Inzaghi.
What Did Carlos Augusto Say About Cristian Chivu?
Cristian Chivu has began his reign as Inter Milan boss at the FIFA Club World Cup, after taking the reins from Simone Inzaghi – who is now the manager at Al Hilal.
The Nerazzurri have booked their place into the next round after remaining undefeated in the group stages, beating Urawa, River Plate and drawing to Monterrey.
A clash against Fluminense awaits for Inter, being one of the favorites to win the competition on the best betting apps and would mark a great start for Chivu.
Despite being at the club for just a matter of weeks, Chivu has already made an instant impact on Inter’s approach and Carlos Augusto revealed how the intensity has changed.
Carlos Augusto said: “We haven’t had a lot of time to work in training. But we know each other so deeply that it doesn’t take a lot for us to connect. Even if we make some changes.
“The coach makes us feel good together and he’s gradually bringing slightly different ideas than before. There’s more verticality when we win the ball back. More pressure when we lose possession. Maybe even a bit more of an edge, aggression.
“That’s what you saw against River. That’s also important. For us to fight without a fear of fouling. We’re trying to feel freer from that point of view as well, because we have the technique to make the difference.”
Does Carlos Augusto Get On With Federico Dimarco?
One talking point from Inter’s camp last season was the situation at left-wing back, as Carlos Augusto would often come off the bench to replace Federico Dimarco.
The Brazilian came on as a substitute in the 55th minute against Barcelona in both legs and Inter came from behind on both occasions to secure a place in the final.
Augusto started 21 games across Serie A and Champions League, while also coming on as a substitute 21 times and put in several performances that asked the question over a regular starting place.
Despite this competition, Augsto revealed that he has a strong relationship with Dimarco and claimed it is vital that Inter Milan have a plethora of left-footed stars.
Augsto said: “Competition and rivalry aren’t dirty words. This is Inter, and we need plenty of left-footed players. In fact, we’re a beautiful community. Fede, Bastoni, and me. And we also have Acerbi at the back.”
Another talking point from the FCWC is the inclusion of Francesco Esposito, as the 19-year-old scored his first goal for Inter during the 2-0 win over River Plate.
Cristian Chivu was quick to cool down the excitement on Esposito’s future and Augusto has taken a similar approach – stating that there should not be too much pressure.
“We just need the right amount of pressure with him. Not burdening him with too much responsibility.”You can’t expect that he has to score every match now.”
