Fabio Capello has warned Inter Milan over letting Hakan Calhanoglu leave the club this summer and compared the Turkish star to Rodri.

Why Is Hakan Calhanolgu Leaving Inter?

The Turkish international has been linked with a move away from Inter for the majority of this summer transfer window, being tipped to return to his home nation.

Calhanoglu has reportedly admitted to the club that he would like to go back to Turkey and even spoke to Galatasaray board members about a possible deal this summer.

His exit from the club appeared to hit another major bump, as Lautaro Martinez publicly called out the Turkish midfielder following Inter’s defeat to Fluminense at the Club World Cup.

Inter were one of the favorites to win the competition on the best betting apps and an agitated Martinez commented on Calhanoglu’s situation after the disappoinitng defeat.

Martinez said: “We have a clear message: anyone who wants to stay must stay, anyone who doesn’t want to stay here should leave. We represent an important club and must challenge for important objectives.”

Calhanoglu responded saying Martinez’s words were there to divide and not unite, highlighting how things are starting to crack and leading to an inevtiable departure.

The Turkish player has made 182 appearances for Inter and won the Serie A, two Coppa Italias and reached two Champions League finals in the last three years.

What Did Fabio Capello Say About Hakan Calhanoglu?

One man that is not too sure about Inter’s decision to sell Martinez is former AC Milan manager, Fabio Capello, who is undoubtedly one of the most iconic names in Italian soccer.

Capello was in charge of Milan between July 1991 – June 1996, managing 249 games and winning four Serie A titles and the Champions League, alongside multiple domestic trophies.

The Italian was also in charge of Roma between 1999 – 2004, before taking the reins at Juventus between 2004 – 2006 and has a wealth of experience in Italian soccer.

After the latest drama around Calhanoglu’s future in Milan, Capello revealed that the club would struggle to replace the Turkish star and compared him to Manchester City midfielder, Rodri.

Capello said: “He is the Rodri of Inter. A beacon, an indispensable player for the Nerazzurri’s game. He is part of those linchpins that make the team go round. It is logical that it will not be easy, if necessary, to replace someone like him.”

With Hakan Calhanoglu expected to leave, Inter have highlighted Nicolo Rovella and Ederson as possible replacements and have already made a bid for the Lazio midfielder.

Ederson currently has two-years remaining on his deal with Atalanta, but the Brazilian is reportedly pushing for a move away from Bergamo and considers Inter as a strong option.
