Aaron Ramsdale Transfer News
According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. Current No.1 Alex Meret’s time in Naples appears to be up. Despite recently penning a two-year contract extension.
The Italy international played a key role in the 2022-23 and 2024-25 Scudetto wins but Antonio Conte is keen to add a new shotstopper to his roster.
FootItalia insiders have confirmed that Aaron Ramsdale is Conte’s first choice to replace Meret for the upcoming campaign. He believes a move is feasible as the England international wants to play top-flight and UCL soccer.
Meanwhile, Napoli are back in the race for Alejandro Garnacho. The Man United star looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer alongside Antony and Jadon Sancho.
Antonio Conte Is A Long-Term Admirer Of Aaron Ramsdale
During his time at Tottenham, Antonio Conte lavished praise on Aaron Ramsdale after a north London derby defeat to bitter rivals Arsenal.
The 2-0 loss to the Gunners in 2022-23 saw Ramsdale handed the MVP award after his stunning performance in goal. He registered an impressive seven saves and earned several plaudits for his display.
“What I can say is that usually when you lose the game, it means the opponent showed to be stronger than you,” Conte told Football London after the game.
“And then it can happen in the game like against Arsenal that their goalkeeper (Ramsdale) was the best player on the pitch and we lost.”
How Much Would Aaron Ramsdale Cost Napoli?
Aaron Ramsdale has a market value of €16million but Napoli would likely have to pay double that figure. Especially as Ramsdale still has three years left on his contract.
He cost Southampton approximately €28m last August and despite their immediate relegation, Ramsdale put in a number of impressive performances for the Saints.
During his time with Arsenal, Ramsdale won the London Football Awards Goalkeeper of the Year (2023) and also won the Premier League Save of the Month on two occasions (March & April 2023).
Antonio Conte knows all about Ramsdale’s qualities and attributes and the relatively modest fee is well within the Azzurri’s summer budget.
