Italian International Prepared To Reject Serie A Return After Attracting Interest From Manchester United

Start

Gianluigi Donnarumma is reportedly willing to turn down a return to Serie A after attracting interest from Manchester United.

Is Gianluigi Donnarumma Leaving PSG?

The Italian shot-stopper has been heavily linked with a move away from Paris after helping the Ligue 1 side achieve its number one goal, winning the Champions League for the first time.

Luis Enrique’s side beat the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal on the route to the final, before securing the biggest final victory in the competition’s history against Inter Milan with a 5-0 thrashing.

Finally reaching this goal, alongside another title triumph has put the future of many of the clubs top talents into question, including their reliable shot-stopper.

Donnarumma signed for the French side in July 2021 and has gone on to make 161 appearances in Paris, winning four league titles, the Champions League and two Coupe de France trophies.

His deal in the French capital is set to expire in June 2026, meaning if a new contract is not agreed then Donnarumma can leave the club as a free agent next summer.

Obviously, the Champions League trophy holders will not be looking to lose a player of Donnarumma’s ability on a free and are reportedly considering the idea of selling him this summer.

The Ligue 1 side have also agreed personal terms with Lille goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, and are edging closer to a $45 million agreement with their French counterparts.

Bringing in Chevalier could spell the end of Donnarumma’s time in Paris and the Italian has attracted interest from multiple clubs around Europe, with Manchester United being tipped as favorites to land the goalie on betting apps.

However, a rumor that has picked up traction in recent weeks is a return to Italy, as Donnarumma may look to return to his home nation ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Will Gianluigi Donnarumma Join Serie A?

The 26-year-old first made a name for himself in the Italian capital, working his way up the ranks at AC Milan and making 251 appearances for the Rossoneri before joining PSG.

During this time, Donnarumma won the goalkeeper of the season award in 2021, while also claiming the Supercoppa Italiana in 2016/17 before cementing his place as the clubs’ number one.

Rumors over a return to Italy are largely directed towards a move back to Milan, but this could be for either of the San Siro occupants as Cristian Chivu looks to strengthen his defensive unit with Inter.

The Nerazzurri have been quite active during this summer window, signing Luis Henrique, Petar Sucic, Nicola Zalewski and Ange-Yoan Bonny Parma, while also monitoring Conor Gallagher’s situation with Atletico Madrid.

Adding Donnarumma to their roster would be a huge sign of intent after a poor 2024/25 campaign, but Inter may face competition from their fierce city rivals who are also interested in bringing the Italian back to Milan.

Mike Maignan has been heavily linked with a move away, as a transfer to Chelsea fell through in its final stages as the clubs could not agree a fee – but resigning Donnarumma may force the Frenchman out of Italy.

Both the Italian side could also miss out on a deal if Manchester United propose a serious offer, as Ruben Amorim has to deal with Andre Onana’s recent hamstring injury.
