AC Milan Close to Signing Young Boys Right-Back Zachary Athekame

Start

AC Milan are closing in on the signing of Swiss right-back Zachary Athekame from BSC Young Boys, in the latest Serie A transfer news.

According to multiple Italian outlets, including La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Messaggero, Milan has submitted an official offer of €7 million for the 20-year-old and is confident they can wrap up the deal this week.

Bonuses worth up to €2 million could help bridge the remaining gap between offer and asking price.

Milan Transfer News: Athekame Set to Join

Athekame has already agreed personal terms with Milan and reportedly turned down interest from both Bologna and Udinese.

Milan had previously shown interest in Strasbourg’s Guela Doue, but his €30 million price tag forced them to look elsewhere.

Athekame’s combination of talent, upside, and affordability made him an ideal alternative, as the Rossoneri look to reinforce their defense.

The right-back will become Milan’s fifth summer signing, after acquiring Luka Modric, Samuele Ricci, Pietro Terracciano, and Pervis Estupinan.

Who is Zachary Athekame and Why Milan Want Him

Zachary Athekame is a dynamic right-back who has developed through the Swiss football system and currently plays for BSC Young Boys.

A regular for the Switzerland U21s, he’s known for his pace, strong work rate, and ability to push high up the pitch – qualities Milan are looking for in a modern full-back.

Standing out in the Swiss Super League for both his consistency and energy, Athekame made over 40 appearances last season and continues to grow in tactical maturity.

With Milan looking to bolster their full-back depth following the departures of Kyle Walker and Emerson Royal, Athekame could step in as both a short-term option and long-term investment. He’s expected to provide rotation and competition for Alex Jimenez on the right side of the defense.

Milan, who are currently fourth favorites to win Serie A with US sportsbooks, need squad depth across all fronts, and signing a young and hungry player like Athekame fits the club’s recruitment model perfectly.

What’s Next for Milan in the Transfer Market?

Milan are unlikely to stop with Athekame. The club is still monitoring midfield and attacking options, such as Club Brugge’s Ardon Jashari, but the two clubs are still haggling over a transfer fee.

With sporting director Igli Tare now leading recruitment efforts, the strategy has shifted toward smart signings with upside.

Massimiliano Allegri’s main objective is to get Milan back into the Champions League, but with his experience and the signings they’ve brought in, a title charge isn’t out of the question.

As Milan closes in on Athekame, fans can expect the Rossoneri to stay active until the final days of the window.
