Why Is Ederson Leaving Manchester City?
The Brazilian shot-stopper has been Manchester City’s number one for over eight-years after joining Pep Guardiola’s side for around $45 million in July 2017.
During his time in Manchester, Ederson has revolutionized the goalkeeper position with his ability on the ball and gone on to win six Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and Champions League.
Astonishingly, during his 372 appearances for the Cityzens, Ederson has not only kept 168 clean sheets, but has accumulated the most assists from a goalkeeper in Premier League history – tallying seven in England’s first division.
However, his time with the blue half of Manchester appears to be coming to an end after Pep Guardiola brought in James Trafford from Burnley and started the Englishman in City’s 4-0 win over Wolves.
The Brazilian’s contract is set to expire in June 2026, meaning Manchester City are looking to cash-in on the 32-year-old before he can leave as a free agent next summer.
Ederson’s future in Manchester has also been put into further doubt as City are reportedly keen on signing Italian shot-stopper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, however AC Milan have not ruled out a move for the PSG star.
The 32-year-old has attracted interest from multiple clubs this summer, with Galatasaray appearing to be the front-runners despite seeing their initial bid be rejected by the former Premier League champions.
Despite the Turkish side’s interest, there has been a recent murmur from the Inter Milan camp, as Cristian Chivu is reportedly looking to upgrade his current goalkeeper roster.
Will Inter Milan Sign Ederson?
The Nerazzurri endured a disappointing campaign by their standards last season, missing out on the Serie A title by one point and suffering a crushing defeat against PSG in the Champions League final.
Failing to deliver in both of these competitions saw Simone Inzaghi’s part ways with Inter and the Italian is now one of the highest paid coaches in soccer after taking the reins at Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Cristian Chivu was quickly appointed to replace Inzaghi and has added a host of star names to his roster, bringing in Petar Sucic, Luis Henrique and Ange-Yoan Bonny.
Inter also looked likely to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta after the Nigerian publicly requested a transfer, however Chivu has identified three alternatives following a multitude of rejected bids.
Strengthening in the attacking areas of the pitch was the early objective for Inter, but Chivu is now looking to make some additions at the opposite end and this could lead to a move for Ederson,
The transfer window is set to end on August 31st and there has been no official contact between the two parties, meaning the Italian side will need to act swiftly.
Inter’s Serie A campaign begins on August 25th, as Cristian Chivu takes charge of his first league match against Torino at the San Siro in the final match of GW1.
