Will Rafael Leao Feature In Milan’s MD5 Clash Against Napoli?

The latest Rafael Leao injury update has confirmed the Milan forward is available for selection against Napoli on MD5. 

Leao hasn’t featured at all in Serie A so far this season. The Portuguese international suffered a calf strain in the Coppa Italia victory over Bari on August 17.

The injury appeared to occur when he celebrated his goal against the Serie B side at the San Siro. Although it seemed like a minor tweak, head coach Max Allegri hasn’t risked Leao since.

Rafael Leao Injury Update

Since the Rafael Leao injury in the middle of August, Milan supporters have been questioning when they would get to see their star man back in action.

Leao was training on his own in the build up to the MD3 clash against Bologna. Many were hopeful he would be able to return to the field but ultimately, that game came too soon.

So to did the following Serie A match against Udinese and the Coppa Italia second round fixture against Lecce on September 23.

However, Leao is back in full training with his team-mates and is expected to be named in the matchday roster for the vital showdown against Napoli.

Will Rafael Leao Play Against Napoli?

With Rafael Leao on the cusp of his first Serie A outing of the season, will head coach Max Allegri play the 26-year-old against the champions?

It’s likely that Leao will start on the bench. To throw him straight into the starting XI in a vital clash could be extremely risky. An injury set back is the last thing Allegri would want to entertain.

Also, the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez have all stepped up when required. Therefore, Leao is going to have to work hard to regain his place.

No matter how the game is going against Napoli on Sunday, Leao is set for at least a 20 minute run-out to help reintegrate him back into the side.

Rafael Leao has a fairly decent overall record for Milan when playing against Napoli. According to TransferMarkt, Leao has played 11 times against the champions in all competitions.

Throughout those matches, he has scored twice and provided three assists. Both of those goals came in a 4-0 win against the Azzurri in the 2022-23 season.

In terms of wins, Leao has been on the victorious side on four occasions. He has drawn four and lost the remaining three fixtures.
