The Italy Under 20 FIFA World Cup finish has been predicted by FootItalia’s AI supercomputer ahead of the tournament in Chile.
Two years ago in Argentina, the Azzurrini finished runners-up to Uruguay with Luciano Rodriguez scoring the decisive goal. As it stands, that is the Italians best performance.
Now, our AI model has trawled through the vital numbers and statistics and provided a definitive prediction for where Carmine Nunziata’s side will place. It has also shared who they believe will be Italy’s standout star.

Where And When Is The 2025 FIFA Under 20 World Cup?
The 2025 FIFA Under 20 World Cup will be hosted in Chile. It will be the second time the South Americans have held the tournament. They first did so in 1987 where Yugoslavia were crowned champions.
In terms of the host cities, Santiago, Rancagua, Valparaiso and Talca have been selected. The grounds themselves are the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos (Santiago), the Estadio Elias Figueroa Brander (Valparaiso), the Estadio Fiscal de Talca (Talca) and the Estadio El Teniente (Rancagua).
The tournament will start on September 27 and conclude on October 19. In total, 24 nations will compete for the coveted title. The final itself will be played in the capital city of Santiago.
Who Has Won The Most FIFA Under 20 World Cup Titles?
Although the Italy Under 20 World Cup squad has a number of star players to watch out for in the coming weeks, the Azzurrini have never won the youth tournament.
The runner-up spot last time out was the furthest the Italians have gone in the tournament. Argentina has the best record at this level boasting six victories. They were last victorious in 2007.
Up next is fellow South American heavyweights Brazil. The Selecao youngsters have five titles to their name. Their last victory came back in 2011. Portugal and Serbia share the last podium spot. Both nations have won the tournament twice.

Italy Under 20 World Cup Group Fixtures
In terms of Italy’s FIFA Under 20 World Cup fixtures, the Azzurrini were placed in pot 1 ahead of the group stage draw. Carmine Nunziata’s side was subsequently drawn to play Australia, Cuba and Argentina in Group D.
The Italians will automatically qualify for the knockout stages by finishing in 1st or 2nd spot. However, the four best-placed sides who finish in third will also progress with the six group winners and six group runners up.
On September 28, Italy will play Australia in Valparaiso in their opening fixture, They will then face Cuba on October 1 (Valparaiso) and conclude with a showdown against Argentina on October 5 (Valparaiso).

Italy Under 20 World Cup Finish Prediction
Having run a series of questions through FootItalia’s AI supercomputer, the model predicts that Italy will reach the quarter-final stage.
The main reasoning for the Azzurrini crashing out at the last eight is due to Carmine Nunziata not having his best side available. With it being a youth tournament, Serie A clubs and others across Europe aren’t obliged to let their best young talents particpate.
Nonetheless, our A1 supercomputer did highlight Italy’s recent record. Having finished runners-up in 2023, the Italy Under 20 team finished third in 2017 and fourth in 2019. Overall, the model provided an 8% chance of winning the tournament.
In terms of Italy’s ‘big star’ in Chile, Marco Romano was identified. The attacking midfield prodigy has enjoyed a fast start to the 2025-26 campaign with Genoa.
Aged 19, Romano has scored four times and provided an assist for Genoa’s U20 side. He is the captain of the side as well and although he is only 5ft 7in, his low center of gravity and agility make him a difficult player to stop.
Naturally, Romano is widely tipped for a long and successful career in soccer. And if our A1 model is correct, he will be Italy’s star player in South America.
