What Is Happening To Raheem Sterling At Chelsea?

The former Manchester City star has endured a difficult spell in recent seasons, as Raheem Sterling is currently being exiled from the Chelsea squad after failing to impress Enzo Maresca.

Sterling has been training away from the Blues first-team since returning from an unsuccessful loan spell at Arsenal, being a part of the ‘bomb squad’ alongside Axel Disasi.

Chelsea signed the Englishman from Manchester City in July 2022, after Sterling’s impressive display in Manchester saw him win four Premier League titles and contribute to 217 goals in 339 appearances (131G + 86A).

Unfortunately, Sterling has not been able to replicate this form at Stamford Bridge and has seen multiple managers take the reins in West London – after initially being brought in by Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel is now in charge of the England national team, which could have paved a path for Sterling to return to the Three Lions squad – but the Brit has not made a single appearance this season.

Multiple star names in the Premier League have failed to pick up minutes this season, with Kobbie Mainoo attracting interest from Serie A after just one league start in 2025/26.

With the 2026 World Cup looming, both Mainoo and Sterling will be looking for regular first-team action, which appears to be extremely unlikely for the Chelsea star.

One issue that has halted any progress between Chelsea and Sterling is the Englishman’s wages, as the 30-year-old is reportedly earning over $300,000 per week and is under contract until June 2027.

This means that Sterling will need to take a huge pay-cut when searching for a new side and Como are reportedly interested in signing the Chelsea star if he lowers his wage expectations.

Cesc Fabregas made multiple additions to his side during the summer window, as Como broke their club transfer record on several occasions – however the performances from the most expensive signings have failed to deliver.

Como currently sit eighth in Serie A after picking up nine-points from their opening six league matches, while also reaching Coppa Italia Ro16 with a win over Sassuolo.

So far, Fabregas’ men have lost just once across all competitions, but three of their last four Serie A encounters have ended in a draw, with the most recent stalemate coming against Atalanta.

One of Como’s biggest issues has come in front of goal, as the Italian side have scored just seven goals from their opening six league matches and Fabregas is said to be eyeing up some more firepower up-front.

Although Sterling has struggled to contribute with many goals since moving to the English capital, the 30-year-old has proven that he can fins the back of the net in the past.

Sterling scored 17 or more Premier League goals in three consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2020, with his highest league tally sitting at 20 during his penultimate season with the Cityzens.

Fabregas is very familiar with the quality Sterling possesses, as the two faced off eight times during the Spaniard’s playing career and the Chelsea star was on the winning side four times.

According to reports, Sterling is looking for a move away in the January transfer window and any deal would likely be a loan with an obligation to buy.
