Will Cesc Fabregas Become New Liverpool Manager? Spaniard’s Impressive Run With Como Attracts Premier League Interest

Cesc Fabregas has been rumored with a move to Liverpool as the Spaniard continues to impress during his spell as Como manager.

Cesc Fabregas Managerial History

After retiring from soccer in July 2023, Cesc Fabregas decided to dive into a career of management and has gone on to become one of the brightest prospects in Europe.

During his playing career, the Spaniard picked up a host of accolades including two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, La Liga title, Copa Del Ray, Europa League and FIFA Club World Cup.

This stellar trophy haul put him in good stead for management and Fabregas began his coaching career with Como U-19, as the Spaniard oversaw nine games – picking up three wins, three draws and three defeats.

In November 2023, Fabregas worked his way through the ranks in Como and became the interim manager after Moreno Longo was sacked due to a run of poor performances.

However, the former Barcelona midfielder was only in charge for five matches (3w, 1D & 1L) before he needed to step down as Fabregas did not have the necessary UEFA coaching license.

The 38-year-old was still involved in Como’s coaching staff, acting as an assistant to Osian Roberts and helping the Italian side earn promotion to Serie A during the 2023/24 season.

Fabregas played a huge role in bringing Como back to Italy’s top division for the first time in over 20 years and earned the full-time managerial role in July 2024 after picking-up his UEFA coaching license.

During his debut season as Como manager, Fabregas guided his side to a 10th place finish in Serie A, picking up 49 points in the league and losing just one of the final nine matches.

Como have taken this form into the 2025/26 season, sitting fifth in Serie A and only losing one of their nine league matches so far – but Como have faced controversy over the proposed match against AC Milan in Australia.

Overall, Fabregas has overseen 50 matches during his time as the full-time Como manager, picking up 19 wins, 14 draws and 17 defeats.

How Much Has Cesc Fabregas Spent At Como?

After securing Como’s place in Serie A during the 2024/25 season, Fabrgeas was rewarded with major financial backing in the summer transfer window.

The Serie A side brought in 16 fresh faces to prepare for the 2025/26 season, breaking their club transfer record on multiple occasions and bringing in some star names.

Como’s biggest expenditure came through Jesus Rodriguez, as the Spaniard signed from Real Betis for around €22.5 million and took Fabregas’ overall tally to a whopping €107m.

During his opening season with Como, Fabregas spent around €97m across the two transfer windows, which saw some successful acquisitions like Nico Paz – but also underwhelming additions like Dele Alli and Raphael Varane.

Como are expected to make some notable signings in the January 2026 transfer window as the Italian side are reportedly ready to make a move for Sofiane Diop from Nice.

Will Cesc Fabregas Become New Liverpool Manager?

Fabregas’ performance as Como manager has cemented his place as one of the brightest managerial prospects in Europe and it was only a matter of time before one of Europe’s elite sides started to show interest.

Liverpool have endured a difficult few months under Arne Slot, as the Reds have lost six of their last seven matches across all competitions and are on a run of four consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

Most recently, the Reds were eliminated from the Carabao Cup after a 3-0 trashing at the hands of Crystal Palace and Arne Slot’s rein is coming under increasing pressure.

The Dutchman picked up the Premier League title during his first season in charge and was rewarded in the summer transfer window, spending over €480m and signing the likes of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.

Winning the Premier League in consecutive seasons now seems like an unattainable task for Liverpool, as they sit seventh in the table and seven points behind table-toppers, Arsenal.

If the Reds do not win any silverware and finish outside of Europe, Slot may be relieved of his duties as Liverpool manager and could make way for Cesc Fabregas.

A move for the Como manager may be unlikely as the Reds would likely target a Premier League proven manager and this is reflected by bookmakers’  – with Fabregas being priced at +2000 (20/1).

The likes of Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner are being favored ahead of the Como boss as he still has three-years remaining on his deal with Como, however, Fabregas has shown intent on taking a step-up in Europe and could be swayed by a job in the Premier League.
