Edin Dzeko Risks Fine And Suspension After Fiorentina Fan Outburst
The veteran forward has once again upset the Artemio Franchi faithful.
Edin Dzeko could be penalized for his megaphone antics towards Fiorentina supporters after the 2-0 defeat by Atalanta on matchday 13.
La Viola is still winless in Serie A this season and currently occupies 19th position in the standings. Historically, a team in Italy’s elite soccer division has never survived after such a poor start.
Paolo Vanoli’s side has just six points to their name and the latest loss in Bergamo means the 2024 Conference League runners-up are in a genuine relegation scrap.
On Thursday, Dzeko slammed Fiorentina supporters after their 1-0 loss to AEK Athens in the UECL. Now, the Bosnian striker has voiced his concerns again which has the potential to deliver financial repercussions.
What Did Edin Dzeko Say After The AEK Athens Loss?
After the 1-0 loss to the Greek side on November 27, Dzeko sent a blunt message to Fiorentina fans whereby he emphasized the importance of backing the team.
He said: “The moment a player makes a mistake and the jeers start coming down, then next time he will feel anxious and perhaps not try to risk the pass, or he doesn’t want the ball at his feet. It all becomes more difficult then.
“We need more support from the stands. I understand it’s difficult at the moment, and the stadium situation is a bit strange, but we’ve got to have more support when we are playing at home. Otherwise the negative energy just keeps spiraling.”
Edin Dzeko Risks Fine And Suspension
At the end of the Atalanta game, Edin Dzeko decided to personally address the traveling Fiorentina fans. Dzeko did so with a megaphone to try and clear up what he said after the AEK defeat.
However, the Serie A sporting code of justice fully prohibits players from confronting supporters. Especially if the culprit has made unsavory comments and/or made threats.
Dzeko could potentially be fined €20,000 and banned for one domestic game. It’s still unknown at this stage if the penalties will be distributed but the Bosnian legend is very much at risk.
Could Fiorentina Sell Dzeko In January?
Before the AEK and Atalanta defeats, it was reported that Edin Dzeko was already considering his options. So far, Dzeko has struggled in Florence and owing to the team’s rapid decline, they may let the veteran move on.
In fact, Fiorentina could sell Moise Kean as well next month. The Italy international has also failed to hit the heights expected of him so far in 2025-26.
It puts newly-installed head coach Paolo Vanoli in a precarious position going into the January transfer window. Especially as a lack of goals have been a huge problem at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
It remains to be seen whether Dzeko will quit. The Bosnian star feels like he hasn’t been given enough minutes but all will become much clearer in the coming weeks.
For now, the 39-year-old will be bracing himself with the possible ban and one-game suspension on the horizon. It’s not clear what match he could potentially miss but La Viola will be hoping his absence won’t hinder a first league win of the season.
