Italian Sides Monitor Manchester United Midfielder As Red Devils Set Low Asking Price

Manchester United are willing to accept a lesser fee for Manuel Ugarte in January and the Uruguayan could be heading to Serie A.

Manuel Ugarte’s time with Manchester United could be coming to an end in 2026, as the Uruguayan midfielder has failed to make an impact under Ruben Amorim.

The 24-year-old joined the Red Devils in August 2024 and was expected to become a pivotal member in the heart of midfield.

However, Ugarte has started just two Premier League matches this season as Amorim prefers the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Mason Mount.

United are also looking to bring in another midfielder during the January window, being one of the European sides interested in Ederson and this would see Ugarte drop further down the pecking order.

This uncertainty has caught the eye of multiple sides in Serie A and the Uruguayan could be heading to Italy’s top-flight in the January window.

Napoli are in desperate need of some midfield reinforcements, with Billy Gilmour, Frank Anguissa and Kevin De Bruyne all facing lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Antonio Conte only has three senior players in the central midfield position and the Partenopei are looking to bolster their spine for the remainder of this season.

However, the Serie A champions will face some competition from another Italian side as Roma are huge admirers of the Manchester United star.

Gian Piero Gasperini has enjoyed a strong start to his Roma tenure, as the Giallorossi sit fourth in Serie A and just a point away from table-toppers, AC Milan.

Both sides will be pushing to land the Uruguayan’s signature and will be confident of completing a deal as Manchester United have dropped their asking price.

Manchester United Set Low Asking Price For Manuel Ugarte

The Red Devils signed Manuel Ugarte for €50million and were initially looking to receive the majority of this fee if the 24-year-old moves elsewhere.

However, the Uruguayan’s recent performances have caused the Red Devils to drop their asking price and Ugarte will be available for around €30m.

This transfer fee will be well-received by both Roma and Napoli, but the Italian sides are reportedly looking to negotiate a loan with obligation to buy.

Gasperini’s primary focus is to sign a striker in January after recent issues in front of goal and Roma have targeted Mathys Tel, as the Frenchman continues to struggle with Tottenham.

Focusing on a new talisman could put Roma behind Napoli in the race for Ugarte, as Antonio Conte is adamant on signing a new midfielder.

Another factor that both sides will need to consider is the 24-year-old’s wages, as Ugarte is said to be earning around €135,000 per week.
