Barcelona Weighing Up Mega-Money Offer For Inter Milan Superstar Lautaro Martinez

Barcelona are set to test Inter Milan’s resolve next summer with a mega-money bid for superstar forward Lautaro Martinez.

The LaLiga champions have been long-term admirers of the Argentine World Cup winner and are keen to get him in their roster for the 2026-27 campaign.

With Robert Lewandowski expected to leave in June, head coach Hansi Flick is keen to fill the void with Martinez. However, Inter will be desperate to avoid losing their most prized asset to a Champions League rival.

According to the latest Lautaro Martinez transfer news via Fichajes, Barcelona are ramping up their interest in the Inter Milan forward.

Martinez’s Inter future was cast in doubt after the Argentine reacted angrily to being subbed against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on November 26.

Since then, Martinez has starred in the Serie A wins against Pisa and Como. The 28-year-old bagged three times across those fixtures to reaffirm his invaluable position in Cristian Chivu’s starting XI.

From Barca’s perspective, obtaining him will be extremely difficult. Especially as Martinez still has three-and-a-half years to run on his current Nerazzurri deal.

As it stands, no other clubs have declared a strong interest in Martinez. Essentially, that leaves the path ‘clear’ for the LaLiga champions but the Argentine is settled in Milan and isn’t seeking a move.

Lautaro Martinez Price Tag

If Barcelona’s quest to sign Lautaro Martinez was already tricky owing to his importance to Inter Milan, the fee they will demand will make it incredibly hard to bring him to Spain.

According to TransferMarkt, Martinez is valued at €85million. For a 28-year-old in their prime, it’s likely Inter would demand almost double that figure.

Barca aren’t exactly blessed with endless riches. Hansi Flick’s side still owes transfer fees for various players across recent seasons and the newly-renovated Nou Camp wasn’t cheap, either.

If the Catalan giants were serious about Martinez, funds must be raised. The most obvious way is through player sales. Even then, it’s unlikely Flick would want to part ways with his best players.

Trimming the vast wage bill will also be a necessity. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility to purchase Martinez but a number of cutbacks would need to occur.

Who Could Inter Milan Replace Martinez With?

In October, Inter Milan targeted Robert Lewandowski. Ironically, the Barcelona star has the potential to trade places with Lautaro Martinez.

It may seem a bold move at present but there is a possibility it can come to fruition. Lewandowski’s contract expires in the summer and a move to Serie A has been mooted.

Elsewhere, Hellas Verona forward Giovane has been strongly linked with the Nerazzurri. The Brazilian could be available for around €15-18m.

Inter are tracking Karim Adeyemi as well. The Borussia Dortmund forward is reportedly seeking a new challenge and would consider a San Siro switch.

Nonetheless, Cristian Chivu will do all he can to keep Martinez on board. Players of his caliber don’t come around too often but it is wise to shortlist potential replacements just in case.
