Bologna may have lost the Supercoppa Italiana final, but they are still in a great position to have a season for the ages.

Losing a final is always heart-breaking, and sadly Bologna found themselves on the receiving end of such a blow against Napoli on Monday night.
It’s not as though Bologna were unlucky either. Napoli were worthy winners on the night, while Vincenzo Italiano’s side were second-best.
However, Italiano is one of the best managers around when it comes to kicking on after a final defeat.
He lost three finals with Fiorentina before triumphing with Bologna in last season’s Coppa Italia showpiece against Milan.
Italiano was naturally upset after the game, but far from being despondent, he sought to learn from his mistakes.
“Napoli deserved it, they played a great match,” he admitted.
“We gave it our all, but we had to play a top-level game and we didn’t manage it.
“It’s a shame, these are games that stick around and make you grow.”

Italiano then went on to say: “We’re coming out of this with our heads held high because reaching the final is never easy.
“We’ll work on our mistakes to grow and improve.
“We still have a lot of competitions ahead of us and we must not let our guard down.”
And that’s precisely the point – Bologna still have so much to fight for this season.
The Rossoblu sit sixth in the Serie A table, are 13th in the Europa League table, and have reached the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
In terms of relatively quick fixes, Bologna must reduce self-inflicted errors, move the ball quicker under pressure, and create clearer chances for the front line.
If Bologna tidy those details, the sky’s the limit, as they have already proved they can beat big teams on big nights.
How much Bologna stand to earn from Supercoppa run to final
As Footitalia recently reported, a lot of prize money was up for grabs at the Supercoppa.
Napoli will land a windfall worth €9.5million, plus a further €1.5million to play against the Saudi Super Cup winner.
Meanwhile, Bologna will bank €6.7million. That is money that can go towards signings and wages over the coming weeks.
Bologna have made a real name for themselves as a club that can give players cup runs and superb career opportunities.
This is something that prospective targets and their agents will be fully aware of in the January window and beyond.
With that in mind, Bologna should be able to strengthen their ranks further on the way to a season that is still promising so much.
Italiano wants his Bologna side to be among the club’s great teams, and he’s still very much on track to do so.
