Roma are confident they will agree a deal for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, according to reports.

When Roma Hope To Wrap Up Joshua Zirkzee Deal

As previously reported by FootItalia, the Serie A club have officially tabled an offer for the striker. Zirkzee is keen on the move and will likely join on loan with a permanent obligation next summer.

Negotiations between both parties are ongoing, but a final agreement has not yet been reached.

United are yet to decide whether they will allow the Dutchman to leave next month, having been depleted by untimely injuries and Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo’s Africa Cup of Nations call-ups.

Reports have indicated that the deal would become permanent should Roma qualify for the Champions League.

While the Italian side are hopeful of shaking hands at €30million, United want closer to €40m. There remains hope, however, that a compromise will be reached over the coming weeks.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have tipped Roma to end up paying between €38m-€40m to land their priority target.

Crucially, there is confidence that the switch will happen, with Zirkzee expected in Rome by mid-January.

Joshua Zirkzee’s Man United nightmare

The 24-year-old has endured a difficult spell at Old Trafford since arriving from Bologna in 2024.

He has made just three starts in all competitions this season and scored only one goal, coming in a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace last month. Zirkzee remains behind Benjamin Sesko in the pecking order, despite the Slovenian’s own struggles.

United supporters – and boss Ruben Amorim – were distinctly unimpressed with Zirkzee’s 30-minute cameo against Newcastle United on Boxing Day, suggesting he may have played his last game for the club.

The frontman was brought off the bench to help his side see out a 1-0 win, but took just 13 touches and failed to make an impact. Damningly, he was also beaten in the air time and again.

He remains under contract until June 2029, but United may be inclined to cut their losses after the AFCON.

Fabrizio Romano’s Joshua Zirkzee Transfer Update

According to Fabrizio Romano, Roma have indeed made an official offer for Zirkzee.

Providing an update on YouTube, the transfer expert said: “It is a loan deal with a conditional obligation to buy, and Manchester United have confirmed, through intermediaries, that they have received this proposal from Roma.”

Zirkzee is open to moving to the Stadio Olimpico, but must play the waiting game while United make a decision.
