Reports from across the Italian media suggest Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero is close to returning to the club. The news comes after the resignation of the entire Juventus board of directors, including club president Andrea Agnelli, and in the midst of ongoing investigations into the club by the Turin prosecutors office.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the new Juventus President Gianluca Ferrero will call Del Piero and ask him to sit on the newly formed board.

The former Juve forward is expected to take over from another club legend, Pavel Nedved, as Juventus’ vice president, who has also resigned his position.

La Stampa go one step further and suggest that Del Piero’s return ‘home’ after ten years is ‘approaching’ with an announcement expected soon.

The Turin based daily write that his return to Juve is ‘more than a hypothesis and is taking shape’ and that Gianluca Ferrero has begun to compose the new board of directors, which is to be elected at the shareholders’ meeting.
