Bologna Are Unwilling To Sell Manchester City Target Jhon Lucumi In January

According to the latest Jhon Lucumi transfer news, Bologna is not willing to sell the Colombian star this month. 

As exclusively revealed by FootItalia on Tuesday, Lucumi emerged as a target for Manchester City amid the club’s defensive crisis.

However, various outlets are suggesting that the Rossoblu will not entertain any offers for the center-back this month. Head coach Vincenzo Italiano does not want to lose the 27-year-old mid-season.

Manchester City target Jhon Lucumi is still very much on Pep Guardiola’s wishlist this winter. The global giants are enduring a number of key absences across their backline currently.

Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones are all sidelined for the foreseeable. That meant a recall for Watford loanee Max Alleyne – who went straight into the starting XI for the Brighton game on January 7.

That in itself further highlights the issues Guardiola is facing currently. The Spaniard has instructed the Cityzens board to sign Lucumi but Bologna are holding firm.

City have dominated the transfer market in recent years but this may be one hurdle they cannot master. Especially as Vincenzo Italiano has already lost the likes of Sam Beukema and Dan Ndoye in the summer window.

Lucumi’s contract talks have stalled so it’s a possibility a departure will happen. However, a deal at the end of the 2025-26 campaign is more feasible for both club and player.

Will Lucumi Definitely Quit Bologna?

Although Sunderland bid for Jhon Lucumi last year, the Black Cats advances were quickly rebuffed. Bologna knows just how valuable the Colombian is and they will fight hard to keep him at the Renato Dall’Ara.

And Manchester City appears to be going down the same road as their Premier League rivals. Their pursuit has been hastily rejected so that begs the question, will Lucumi stay in Emilia-Romagna?

That, of course, remains to be seen. Especially as the Rossoblu and 27-year-old have come to a standstill regarding contract talks. Nonetheless, that doesn’t necessarily mean all is lost.

Naturally, a summer exit gives Vincenzo Italiano more time to replace Lucumi – if he does decode to quit. Even though the World Cup will make negotiations more tricky, it still provides a smoother avenue to recruit a replacement.

In an ideal world, Italiano and the board will be able to keep Lucumi. Discussions will continue in the coming weeks and the ball is quite literally in Lucumi’s court as to whether he wants to continue or seek a new venture.
