Maurizio Sarri has questioned his future with Lazio as the Italian has been left frustrated by the decisions behind the scenes.

The Laziali boss revealed his feelings towards the club’s current situation after a 2-2 stalemate with Fiorentina on January 7th and Sarri’s future in Rome has been cast into doubt.

Issues between Sarri and the Lazio board began after the club was handed a transfer ban in mid-2025, as the Italian coach felt there was a lack of communication.

This transfer embargo came to an end at the beginning of January and Lazio have been linked with multiple players to help turn their season around after a poor start to the campaign.

Lazio currently sit ninth in Serie A, eight-points away from European qualification and suffered a major blow going into 2026 – as star forward Taty Castellanos joined West Ham.

Sarri has managed to bring in a replacement for the Argentine after Lazio agreed a €13million deal for Austrian striker Petar Ratkov, but the Laziali boss is still unhappy with the current atmosphere at the club.

Going into the season Sarri was aware that he would have to ‘put up’ with a lot, but the Italian revealed that this has become a bigger issue than first believed.

Sarri said: “I said at the start of the season that I would stay here at all costs and put up with everything. Well, I’ve had to deal with more than I expected.

“The only thing that hurts me is that we have such marvelous fans, I think it’s going to be really tough to give them some joy, and that weighs on me.”

Although there are clearly issues at Lazio, Sarri is hopeful over some more activity in January to help climb up the Serie A table.

Lazio Set For January Overhaul

Lazio have already lost a star man in Castellanos and the Serie A side are set to lose another vital figure in Matteo Guendouzi, as the Frenchman nears a move to Fenerbahce.

Guendouzi’s departure will be a big blow to Sarri’s plans, but Lazio are targeting Kenneth Taylor as the Ajax midfielder has been described as a Toni Kroos 2.0.

Sarri is hoping for more additions to go alongside Taylor’s arrival and the Laziali are closing in on former Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne as the Italian is still searching for a club.

Bringing in a host of players will play a huge role in keeping Sarri at the club, as the Lazio boss revealed that he would like to stay after giving his word to the fans and believes the Laziali can do many things in January.

Sarri said: “I gave my word to the Lazio fans. So I think I will stay. The transfer window isn’t closed yet, I think the club can still do many more things.”
