Roma Reach Joshua Zirkzee Agreement As Striker Waits For Man United Decision
The striker looks to have taken a step closer to sealing his move to Rome.
Roma have reached an agreement in principle to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United.
Roma Make Significant Joshua Zirkzee Contract Offer
Despite United not yet deciding whether they will allow the striker to leave this month, the Giallorossi are pushing hard for his signature.
According to Tuttomercato, a deal which would see Roma bring in the forward on loan with a conditional obligation to buy for €38million is close. The deal would become permanent if they qualify for the Champions League.
It is believed a four-year contract running until 2030 is on the table, with the Serie A side hopeful Zirkzee will be given the green light to strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini’s frontline.
As part of the enticing financial package, the ace is set to earn €3.5m per season in Rome.
The same publication claims Roma have done ‘everything’ to win the race. Indeed, talks are ongoing with his camp to tie up loose ends. FootItalia reported earlier this week that they had stepped up talks over Zirkzee.
While he has not set the Premier League alight since arriving in July 2024, having scored just nine goals in 64 appearances for United, he would represent a real threat and penalty area presence.
Gasperini had made no secret of his unhappiness with Roma’s sluggish business in the current window. However, the potential arrival of the Dutchman would help to alleviate any lingering tensions with the board.
But there may yet be a late twist. United sacked Ruben Amorim earlier this week, and while they continue to search for an interim manager for the rest of the season, they are unlikely to sanction sales.
This could force Zirkzee to wait a little longer before a final decision is made. Regardless, the player is still keen to join Roma, and the club are prepared to push harder to land him before the transfer deadline.
Roma Shortlist Young Forwards
While they continue to chase Zirkzee, the Giallorossi are also weighing up bringing in a young attacker.
According to Sky Sport, Hellas Verona’s Giovane is on the shortlist. Numerous other clubs are also monitoring the 22-year-old’s progress, though, including fellow Serie A outfit Atalanta.
He has made 18 appearances in the top-flight this season, scoring three goals and recording four assists.
Marseille’s Robinio Vaz is also on Roma’s radar. Born in 2007, the teenager is in demand and would cost a significant amount.
The 18-year-old has played 19 games this campaign and netted four times, all in Ligue 1. He has also been used sparingly throughout the Champions League’s league phase, featuring in every squad.
