Sampdoria Transfer Twist: Mitoglou Deal Falls Through After Week Of Tests
Sampdoria don't feel he could be immediately available for action.

The deal involving Sampdoria and AEK Athens defender Gerasimos Mitoglou has reportedly fallen through after days of medical tests.
Mitoglou had travelled to Italy earlier this month to complete a move from the Greek club and sign a short-term contract.
Sampdoria would have been able to sign Mitoglou on a free transfer. He hasn’t played since last May and his AEK contract expires this summer.
The 25-year-old arrived alongside midfielder Salvatore Esposito, but the Greek defender’s medical process took far longer than expected.
Sampdoria not convinced by Gerasimos Mitoglou fitness
On January 3, Mitoglou underwent a medical along with Esposito. However, he stayed about an hour longer for more in-depth tests, including an MRI scan.
The tests continued over the following days, with further assessments carried out over his physical condition, according to Calciomercato.
In the end, Sampdoria opted not to sign Mitoglou over doubts about his recovery time and the possibility of him being available in the short term.
Given the urgency of having defenders ready immediately, the Serie B pulled the plug on the deal.
Sampdoria are in the midst of a defensive crisis, which has been exacerbated by Lorenzo Venuti’s serious injury.

Blucerchiati turn to other targets
Sampdoria will look to other defensive targets, with reports linking the Blucerchiati to Mattia Viti and Pedro Felipe.
The club are working under pressure to improve their squad in amid injuries and poor results on the pitch.
As things stand, Sampdoria are 14th in the Serie B table, but just one point separates them from 18th-placed Virtus Entella.
Sampdoria were spared relegation to Serie C in May after Brescia took their automatic spot for a series of financial violations.
Despite the reprieve, which resulted in Samp staying up via the relegation playoffs, they are now struggling once again.
Angelo Gregucci’s charges also have a league match to prepare for, as they travel to face 11th-placed Avellino on Saturday.
For Mitoglou, the next step is finding a new solution back in Greece after his Italian move sadly ended before it began.
