Lazio will not let AC Milan and Inter target Mario Gila leave this month, according to reports.

AC Milan And Inter Competing For Mario Gila

As reported by FootItalia, both Milan clubs are actively chasing the centre-back.

Milan are determined to sign a new defender before the window closes, with several names, including Juventus’ Federico Gatti and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, linked.

Sporting director Igli Tare has already made contact with Gila’s representatives, with talks held last month.

The Rossoneri are understood to have explored whether a deal in January was possible. However, it has now been revealed that an official swoop for Gila will have to wait until the end of the season.

Inter view Gila, who has become a crucial figure for Lazio and made 19 appearances in total this season, as a target for next June. As such, they would be prepared to wait.

The Spaniard’s agent had looked to play down the speculation over a mid-season switch to the Italian capital, insisting his focus was solely on performing for his current side.

He remains tied down under contract until June 2027 and would cost at least €20million. But with just 18 months remaining on his deal, several potential suitors are known to be circling.

With Milan and Inter certainly among them, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has delivered a timely update.

Fabrizio Romano Issues Mario Gila Update

Romano and fellow journalist Matteo Moretto posted a video on YouTube in which they addressed Gila’s future.

“I wanted to add something regarding Mario Gila’s name from Lazio,” said Romano.

“Meanwhile, I’ll add that, speaking of Gila, despite the constant talk of big teams interested in the Lazio defender, today Lazio are absolutely not planning a departure in January.

“As for the summer with a contract expiring in 2027, both Milan and Inter have already received information on the situation of the player.

“Both Milan and Inter are following him closely. He’s a highly-rated player, a player who is clearly demonstrating his value. But today Lazio aren’t thinking about a January exit.

“So he’s a name that we should probably absolutely forget about in the January transfer window.

“We’ll see about the summer, also based on the contract situation. I repeat, both Milan and Inter are very attentive. But the race for Gila is a long one and won’t end now.”

Premier League giants Chelsea made a bid for Gila last summer, reportedly worth €35m, but missed out.
