Matteo Guendouzi has become an instant hit at Fenerbahce following his move from Lazio after scoring in the Turkish Super Cup final win over Galatasaray.
Guendouzi left Lazio for Fenerbahce earlier in the January transfer window, the Turkish giants paying around €29m.
It was his first official match since leaving Lazio, and it came in the biggest derby in Turkiye.
Guendouzi’s early goal settled nerves, lifted the fans, and set Fenerbahce on the way to silverware at their arch-rivals’ expense.

Sarri bemoaned Guendouzi’s departure, showing exactly how much he meant to him and to the Lazio faithful.
However, Lazio’s loss is Fenerbahce’s gain, as the tenacious midfielder made a big impact on his debut on Saturday.
Turkish outlet Fotomac sung Guendouzi’s praises as Fenerbahce won the Super Cup for the first time since 2014/15.
“Top-level players don’t feel out of place; they just go out and play,” wrote Emre Bol. “Guendouzi, for example.
“Two days ago, he played for his old team, and then he delivered a fantastic performance against Galatasaray.
“A good player doesn’t need time.”

Guendouzi plays with intensity and edge, constantly demanding the ball and refusing to hide when the pressure rises.
That attitude is part of what made him stand out at Lazio, and it is exactly what Fenerbahce want in their midfield.
He also brings experience from Europe’s biggest leagues, having played in France, England and Italy before this move.
Who Lazio could sign to replace Guendouzi
Lazio have been strongly linked with Ajax midfielder Kenneth Taylor as the most ready-made replacement for Guendouzi.
Reports suggest talks between Lazio, Ajax and Taylor are advanced around a €15m deal.
They are also said to be working on Ferencvaros youngster Alex Toth as a longer-term midfield option.
Other names mentioned in the Italian rumour mill include Giovanni Fabbian, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lazar Samardzic as alternatives Lazio have considered.
