Roma Seal €25m Donyell Malen Deal With Striker To Undergo Medical
Malen is expected in Rome on Wednesday to finalise the move.
Roma have reached an agreement to sign Aston Villa forward Donyell Malen.
Roma Donyell Malen Deal Details Revealed
Fabrizio Romano has given the deal the ‘here we go’, and Malen is set to arrive in Italy on Wednesday.
The Giallorossi will pay a £2million loan fee before the striker joins permanently in the summer for £25m.
This buyout will be activated should the club qualify for either the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League next season. There is no clause tied to the number of appearances he makes this campaign.
Roma made an improved offer on Tuesday, with Villa then giving the green light. Malen will shortly undergo his medical in Rome before officially putting pen to paper on his contract.
It is not known whether the majority of his wages, believed to be around £140,000 per week, will be covered.
The ace had only joined Villa from Borussia Dortmund last January but remains second-choice to Ollie Watkins. This is despite him making an impact this season, scoring seven goals across all competitions.
Both clubs are understood to be happy with the arrangement. Villa have made a slight profit on Malen, who they brought in for £21m from Dortmund, while Roma have finally secured themselves a new first-choice striker.
Malen will depart after just 35 Premier League appearances, seven of which were starts.
Atletico Madrid mounted a last-gasp push but ultimately missed out, with Roma’s timely counter-offer crucial.
What Roma Have Told Joshua Zirkzee
Roma also wanted Joshua Zirkzee, but told the Manchester United forward they could not wait any longer, according to TEAMtalk.
Sporting director Frederic Massara admitted the deal was all but impossible, telling reporters at the weekend: “Right now, United have closed off all transfer discussions; it seems highly unlikely to me.”
The club are said to have contacted Zirkzee’s representatives to warn him they were ready to move on. The striker, however, was understanding of the situation and now looks set to stay at Old Trafford.
Having held a transfer summit with Gasperini after the 2-0 victory against Lecce, Roma quickly set about sealing deals for both Malen and Marseille youngster Robinio Vaz.
Vaz has already touched down in Italy and will undergo his medical on Wednesday before signing a contract until 2030. An agreement was struck for around €25m, including bonuses.
The 18-year-old was greeted by supporters at Ciampino airport and is expected to slot into the first-team squad.
