Roma are set to miss out on Joshua Zirkzee during the January transfer window as the Manchester United star is exploring multiple options.

The Giallorossi are growing highly concerned over their pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee, as Roma face stiff competition from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
Zirkzee has been linked with a move to the Italian capital for several months after a difficult spell in Manchester and Gasperini was hoping to bring the Dutchman back to Serie A.
Roma have brought in some attacking reinforcements already during the January transfer window, bringing in Donyell Malen on loan and the Dutch international marked his debut with a goal.
Gasperini is set to add some more attacking firepower before the deadline, as Roma continue their quest for Champions League qualification.
Zirkzee appears to have fallen down the pecking order in Manchester after the Red Devils appointed Michael Carrick, as the United boss prefers Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo up-front.
Roma were initially looking to sign Zirkzee on loan for the remainder of the season, which would see the Dutchman become the Giallorossi’s latest temporary signing.
The Giallorossi have already signed Evan Ferguson, Leon Bailey, Daniele Ghilardi and Malen on loan, while also bringing in Robinio Vaz from Marseille for €22million.
However, this deal could face some difficulties before the January transfer window comes to an end as Fenerbahce are preparing a strong bid for the Dutchman.
The Turkish side are currently second in the Turkish Super Lig, just one-point behind Galatasaray and believe Zirkzee can help Fenerbahce lift the league titles for the first time since 2014.
There is still a chance that Manchester United will keep a hold of Zirkzee until the summer due to a lack of options up-top, but the Red Devils have reportedly set an intriguing asking price.
Manchester United Set Zirkzee Price Tag
Zirkzee joined the Red Devils for €42.5m in July 2024 and has gone on to make 65 appearances for the Premier League giants.
During this time, the 24-year-old has scored just nine goals and has shown very little signs of turning his form around during the 2025/26 campaign.
United are reportedly aware that recouping all of the €42.5m is unlikely, but the Premier League side are hoping to receive around €30m for the Dutch international.
The Red Devils had been linked with a move for Youssef En-Nesyri but Juventus are targeting the Moroccan and Fenerbahce would only increase their efforts to sign Zirkzee if the 28-year-old moves this month.
Roma’s situation could also rely on Evan Ferguson’s future as the Giallorossi are considering the idea of terminating the Irishman’s loan spell after a poor spell in Serie A.
Spending €30m in January would be a major investment by Roma and this fee could be a major obstacle for the Giallorossi – meaning Fenerbahce are in the driving seat.
