According to Amazon Prime Video, Spalletti took exception after one matchgoer was heard loudly criticising his side for the first 50 minutes of their crucial Champions League showdown on Wednesday.

The visitors, managed by Jose Mourinho, created the best openings in the first half, leading to audible boos from sections of the home crowd at the Allianz Stadium at half-time.

Despite Spalletti making a change at the break, replacing the ineffectual Fabio Miretti with Francisco Conceicao, the Old Lady continued to underwhelm early in the second period.

That led the Turin outfit’s head coach to lose his composure as he confronted a supporter behind the dugout.

Amazon Prime Video’s pitchside reporter Alessandro Alciato was positioned near the bust-up and clearly heard the words exchanged. A furious Spalletti is alleged to have said: “Next time, stay home.”

However, his mood would have been lifted somewhat just a few minutes later. Khephren Thuram combined sharply with Jonathan David before firing the opening goal into the bottom corner.

According to the same journalist, Spalletti reacted by celebrating the breakthrough in front of the spectator.

Juventus then doubled their lead shortly after the hour mark through Weston McKennie, the American finishing off a neat one-two to score for the third consecutive Champions League game.

There was still time for late drama, Vangelis Pavlidis missing a penalty for Benfica after Gleison Bremer’s foul.

But the Bianconeri’s professional display ensured they took all three points and moved them into 15th place.

No stranger to a spat, Spalletti argued with a TV host earlier this season after David was harshly criticised.

Contract Talks On Hold

Despite his impressive work at the helm in Turin, Spalletti is in no hurry to sign a new contract.

Indeed, discussions over extending his stay have been placed on hold until the end of the season, when his deal runs down. This is despite Giorgio Chiellini insisting he believes he will stay for a ‘few years’.

“I’m not ready for anything, and Juventus isn’t ready for anything either,” said Spalletti. “We’ll resolve this doubt in the last week of our cohabitation, of our relationship.

“Because we continue like this, consistently, until the end. I haven’t done anything to deserve an extension. In football, we know that ideas change quickly and easily.”
