Napoli are looking to bring Adam Wharton to Serie A during the summer as the Crystal Palace star is concerned about the club’s future.
Adam Wharton Open To Serie A Switch
The English midfielder is reportedly frustrated over the latest ongoings at Crystal Palace, as the Premier League side face a host of major departures.
Former club captain Marc Guehi parted ways with the Eagles to join Manchester City, Oliver Glasner confirmed that he will be leaving his managerial post at the end of the season and Jean-Philippe Mateta has handed in a transfer request.
The French striker is yet to find a new club but is currently in negotiations over a move to Serie A, as Juventus want Mateta during the January window.
Losing your club captain, top goal-scorer and manager is a major issue for any club, but Crystal Palace’s situation could be made worse through Adam Wharton.
The 21-year-old has become one of the brightest prospects in England since moving to Selhurst Park and is being linked with some of the biggest sides across the globe.
Napoli are reportedly looking to take advantage of Wharton’s frustrations in London, by making a huge offer after the 2026 World Cup.
The Partenopei have endured a torrid time with injuries this season and the central midfield position has been a huge problem for Antonio Conte.
Kevin De Bruyne, Billy Gilmour and Frank Anguissa have missed months of action through injury and are not expected to return until March.
Conte is desperate to bring in a midfielder during the January transfer window, but may have to wait until the summer to submit a bid for Wharton as Crystal Palace have set a huge price tag on the 21-year-old.
Crystal Palace Set Staggering Price Tag
Wharton has become one of the first names on the Crystal Palace team-sheet under Oliver Glasner, starting in 20 of the Eagles’ 22 Premier League matches this season.
The youngster still has three-years remaining on his current deal with Crystal Palace and the Eagles are reportedly unwilling to consider any offer below €80million.
Napoli would have to free-up some funds to make an appropriate bid this summer and are currently prioritizing a new contract for Scott McTominay.
The Partenopei could negotiate a slightly lower fee as Crystal Palace would not be selling to a direct rival, but the Serie A side would still need to exceed €60m.
However, Napoli are also considering a possible player plus cash swap deal which would see Billy Gilmour move to Crystal Palace and bring Wharton to Naples this summer.
