Daniel Maldini is close to completing his initial loan transfer from Atalanta to Serie A rivals Lazio.

Maurizio Sarri’s men will fork out €1million for Maldini’s services until the end of the 2025-26 season. If the Biancocelesti qualify for Europe, the move will become permanent for a further €14m.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal has already been agreed upon with the capital club set to announce the official signing once the medical tests have been signed off.

Daniel Maldini Transfer News

Although Atalanta signed Daniel Maldini last February, his time in Bergamo has been largely forgettable. In the second-half of the 2024-25 campaign, Maldini made just 11 appearances.

This term, the son of Italy and AC Milan legend Paolo has registered just 372 minutes across all competitions. Maldini has featured just once this calendar year and now, Lazio is willing to give the attacking midfielder a fresh start.

Tensions have risen in Rome over the Biancocelesti’s lack of transfer activity. However, the impending signing of Maldini is set to ease the pressure on boss Maurizio Sarri.

The former Chelsea boss hit out at the board – alongside supporters – claiming the club was not going “in the right direction” this January – that despite Kenneth Taylor and Petar Raktov joining.

A stadium boycott against Genoa on January 30 has even been mooted by the club’s ultras. Nonetheless, those threats may not come to fruition if Maldini and others arrive this week.

Daniel Maldini Career Stats

Having progressed through AC Milan’s youth teams, Daniel Maldini struggled to make his mark for the senior side. After making his debut in 2020, the 24-year-old scored just once in 15 appearances across all competitions.

He was part of the roster who won the Scudetto in 2021-22 – emulating his father Paolo and grandfather Cesare – but he was farmed out on loan to Spezia in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Maldini scored twice for the Aquilotti and was also loaned out to Empoli and Monza before joining the latter on a permanent deal in 2024.

At this stage of his career, the Azzurri international had registered 11 goals and two assists. Including his Atalanta stats, Maldini has a total of 18 goal contributions (14 goals, 4 assists) in 105 outings.

Although such figures might not fill Lazio supporters with confidence, Maldini certainly has a lot to prove. He still has plenty of time to impress and if Maurizio Sarri gives him the platform to perform, it could pay dividends.
