AC Milan’s Last-Ditch January Transfer Plans Revealed With Mario Gila Talks Underway

AC Milan have drawn up their last-ditch plans for January, according to the latest transfer news.

With the February 2 deadline rapidly approaching, time is running out for clubs to conclude business.

Milan signed Niclas Fullkrug on loan from West Ham United until the end of the season but have otherwise been quiet, despite chasing multiple targets. However, they will remain active until the window closes.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri are ‘vigilant and evaluating potential opportunities’. They are especially determined to strengthen at the back, but will only move for the right target.

Indeed, Koni De Winter’s resurgence has reduced the urgency to sign a new centre-half. Milan would also only look to recruit experienced signings on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae was on the shortlist, only for his salary demands to prove prohibitive. Federico Gatti, Niklas Sule and Axel Disasi were also linked in recent weeks but no agreements materialised.

Milan have two non-EU player slots to fill this month, with Andrej Kostic earmarked for one. Partizan Belgrade’s price tag is deemed too high, though, and an agreement may not be reached before the deadline.

Meanwhile, Massimiliano Allegri is also plotting for the future.

Fresh Mario Gila Talks Held

According to Calciomercato, Lazio’s Mario Gila is a priority target for Milan. There is a unanimous consensus at the San Siro over the potential deal, with Allegri and sporting director Igli Tare both admirers.

Gila, who arrived in Italy from Real Madrid B for just €5m in 2022, would also represent a long-term investment. 

The first round of talks took place in mid-December and contact has been ongoing, with Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani personally taking charge of negotiations with Lazio president Claudio Lotito.

Milan had initially pushed for an ambitious switch this month. I Biancocelesti were reluctant, though, having already sold Matteo Guendouzi to Fenerbahce and Taty Castellanos to West Ham.

Gila, who is open to the move, is tied down under contract until 2027 and is valued at at least €30m. Milan are likely to make an opening bid at closer to €20m, but would prefer to lower the price to €15m.
