Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri has criticised the international breaks and believes that they are ‘crazy’, stating that the heavy schedule has seen the sport turn into a business. He also believes that if football continues to follow in the same pattern that ‘in ten years nobody will be interested in it anymore.’ The former Juventus boss spoke in a recent press conference ahead of their Serie A clash with Monza on Sunday, as quoted by Corriere dello Sport.

On players in the national team and Mattia Zaccagni:

“Mancini makes the call-ups and when my players aren’t called up I’m happy. The decisions are his and they don’t interest me. Vecino flew from Italy to Japan, from Japan to South Korea and then Italy. The national teams are madness. The championship is no longer feasible, it is madness to compare it with the NBA when you play 28 minutes. And in football you take a lot of beatings compared to the NBA and European basketball”.

Opinion on the national teams:

“I don’t criticize the national teams, I don’t care about it. I watched 10 minutes of Kosovo and Andorra, I saw all the players in the box, I said ‘what the hell happened?’ I criticize the fixture list, because then the quality decreases, there are always 5-6 absent due to injury, they have to explain to me where they want to go. The sport has become a business, if it then becomes just business, I don’t exclude that in 10 years nobody will be interested in it anymore.”
