Juventus are expected to discuss a contract extension for Matthijs De Ligt as Giorgio Chiellini’s time at the club comes to an end. The veteran defender has another year on his Juve contract but reports from the Italian press suggest he would like to spend a year in MLS before retiring from the game.
Chiellini has confirmed that his last game with the Azzurri will be in this summers friendly match against Argentina while La Gazzetta dello Sport report that he would like to spend a year in Miami or Los Angeles.
Gazzetta also report that De Ligt is now seen as a leader of the ‘new’ Juventus squad while the fans have heaped praise on him and even appointed him as their new captain.
His contract with the Bianconeri is due to end in 2024 and that could expose the club to potential risks in the transfer window as Chelsea and Bayern Munich have both been linked with a move for him in recent months.
As such, Gazzetta report that a contract renewal will be discussed between club and player very soon.
