Jose Mourinho was elated with his teams progress to the Europa League final: ‘I want to give joy to the Romanisti’. The Giallorossi were up against it in Germany, carrying a 1-0 lead from the first-leg, and haviung to weather sustained pressure from the Bundesliga side who had a number of chances to equalise. Speaking with DAZN and Sky Sport after the 0-0 draw which saw them qualify for the final, Mourinho explained why he just wants to help his young players grow and why he hopes the fans will give the players a special welcome when they return to training at Trigoria:
“My concern isn’t marking my place in the Roma history books, It’s helping these kids to grow, to achieve important things,” he explained. “It’s also helping the Roma fans who have given me so much since day one. It’s an immense joy to get to another final.
“This is the way my team is, a matter of small details,” remarked the Special One. “If Smalling isn’t on the bench maybe we don’t win tonight.”
“Losing Celik was tough. Same with Spinazzola, this result is possible thanks to our ability to stick to tactics, direct the game in our favour and cover our weaknesses.”
“I don’t know if I can ask anything more from the fans, but these boys deserve something special on Monday when we will depart Trigoria.”
